Only three years after its successful opening in 2009, this shopping centre is expanding in response to demand from both shoppers and retailers.
Pan Africa Shopping Centre is part of the Presidential Alexandra Renewal Project. It’s owned by Pan Africa DevCo, a company formed by Tebfin Developments in partnership with local entrepreneurs and the two main taxi associations in Alexandra, being ATA and ARMSTA.
In a pioneering initiative, the centre was the first of its kind in SA, built with fully integrated public transport. It includes a 50,000sqm taxi facility. It is ideally placed in one of Alexandra’s busiest hubs, corner of 3rd Avenue and Watt Street. It is a natural transport node on the historic site formerly known as Pan Africa.
Having successfully completed the leasing of the mall’s 60 original stores, including Alexandra’s first Pick n Pay, specialist retail leasing company Retail Network Services was called upon to lease the new extension.
The groundbreaking shopping centre continues to report increased turnovers for tenants. Pedestrian and taxi traffic are also showing an upward trend. More than 50,000 people use the area daily, as well as some 1,500 taxis.
